Looks&PB:

Kaplan is relatively averaged sized man. He is Amtasan in complexion via his father's side, with hints of his mother's Schwartzvalden descent. At 5 foot 10 inches, he has brown hair and brown eyes. He is muscular, focused mainly in his legs and upper body. Kaplan wears a style of clothing similar to those found in High School Students in Amatsu. The outer jacket though, is tucked in, and he wears a pistol belt which carries spare ammunition and repair kits. He has two thigh holsters, where he can easily reach his pistols, he sports an improved backpack from the one he had from the war. His outer jacket is also stiffer, certain areas made with two layers, with an inner filling of multiple heavy cloth glued together, meant to defeat most arrows. The bulk, weight, and the fact it mad ehim perspire faster meant that he barely wears it

Background:

Childhood
Kaplan grew up in the woods of Hugel. As a child, he was taught many survival, hunting and trapping skills by his father. He often followed his father along, and as such, came to love hiw his father dispatched monsters with his old Arbalest. He fell in love with warfare, talking to a retired Midgardian knight, and from him, learned rudimentary sword skills. But the best gift he got from the man was his collection of Military Literature. He'd read about archers and knights, as well as tactics and strategy, from books. He was often seen in town, a basket of food in one hand and a basket of hard, leather-bound books of galantry, courage, and intelligence. Local kids would often abuse him for this. Coming home with bruises on his face and escorted by the bully's parents home was a common scene the in Scharfshutze home. At home, he is often taught by his parents, and learned Basic from both, while Scwartzvaldan from his mom and from the town people and some Amatsan from his father.

As such, he never made much friends. In the age of 8, he attended second year primary school. He was the youngest in class. One reason for skipping a grade was his reading level. Having encouraged by the old knight and his parents to read, he'd learned words normally found in secondary school level. he lacked math skills, and only standard school procedure kept him from being promoted higher. Same as when he was out, bullies picked on him, and eventually, between classes, would often "hide" and stay hidden from these bands of normally peacefull people, who prowled the halls, looking to torment Kaplan.

In ninth grade, the start of secondary education, he was being bullied by few others stronger than he was. His build emphasized speed, agility, and dexterity, and given the chance, could outrun many of his oponents. This time though, he had been cornered, and was being beaten up, before a few people came and beaten them off.

From this, he had this small cadre of friends. Social outcasts, either because they didn't fit in with the majority of Hugel or because they were from families who were formally adventurers. They were often seen romping in the woods, playing with wooden swords, or discussing anything from why Porings are Porings to Military tactics. In the last year of secondary shcool, some went to follow in their parent's footsteps and went to be knights, while others, like Kaplan, went to Lighthalzen to seek the trade of a Gunslinger.

Academy
Kaplan entered the Academy in the age of 18. He had originally opted to only be a Pistol Gunslinger, yet fell in love with the rifle. Taking note of this, his teachers introduced him to the weapon, and he couldn't choose much between the two styles. So he chose both. While it wasn't heard of, it was a while since a Gunslinger Cadet has opted to do two weapons training. So while the rest of his comrades in arms graduated, he stayed behind to start the rifle course. He learned much, and when graduating, finally, had been used to the Semi-Automatics being produced. Having been perfected merely years before, Semi-Automatic weapons were replacing the lever and bolt actions of before. He wasn't done yet. He had stayed behind, once more, and enhanced his marksmanship skills with both his pistols and rifle. In short, he stayed behind in the academy longer than most, and as a result, was just a recruit in the Police Force when the rest of his peers were advanincing in the ranks. He is one of the more accurate pistoleers, practicing how to fight surrounded by enemies. He jokingly called this form of pistol discipline "some form of martial-art and pure destructive capabilities of a pistol". He is often seen hanging around the production centers, contributing ideas to those who make the guns, seeing he often wasted zeny upon zeny into buying ammunition.

Actual Service
Finally leaving the academy, he was instantly sent to Lighthalzen. He was already part of the police force the first time he graduated, and only letters of recomendation kept him from serving while he persuied assitional training. He arrived in Lighthalzen a day before the invasion, and although he met a few people through the MagiJournal system, was forced out by the invaders.

War
In the opening stages of the war, his location was somewhere in the border between Rune-Midgard and the Republic, and given the opportunity, would often kill or severly injure patrols sent out by the Feltzen military. but so far, his guerilla warfare has also kept him unable to contact anyone much in the journal, due to the fact he is also being chased by trackers more skilled than he is, so his life is constantly moving from one safe location to another.

He had originally planned to join his Commanding Officer in the resistance, when he answered to a call of one Hazumu Kamio, leading refugees across the border to Izulde. He would join her, and upon arriving at Izulde, would work numerous odd jobs and fight at the front. This would continue throughout the war, and he'd stay with constant contact with Hazumu. In his forays to the front, he'd encounter many near misses on his life, and although he still pressed on, has become a bit cautious. When Peace was called, he hurried to Hugel, and after a few days, would persuade his parents to move to Izulde. He went and reported back to Lighthalzen, but decided against making a career out of the Police Forces.

Present
Currently resides with parents in Izulde with parents. Works some odd jobs, but plans to apply for Hazumu's Private Military Company, or more legally, a Security company called 'Strongwill Securities Ltd.' He's on friendly terms with Kamio, and attempts to raise up old contacts in Lighthalzen.



Personality:

Kaplan is quite odd. Having grown up with little friends, he is thrust into a dedicated Police Corps, where teamwork is key. Quiet, shy, and cold to those who don’t know him, he surprises many by being the one to break the ice. From the view of an outsider, he is quite unfriendly and will only be friendly enough to be a cohesive team player.

Personally, he is a loyal and protective friend. Having only met a few trustworthy people in his childhood, he has grown fierce bonds with them, including those who had moved to Prontera and had begun their careers as knights.

Having read about professional armies as a child, he is smart and obeys orders, but will often know when a commander is acting against the safety of the troop. Virtuous, he shows extreme respect to Priests, Priestesses, Monks, and Acolytes, anyone of religious importance basically. It also conflicts with his nature, as he tends to curse at times.
